Heat and styling tools can help you get that perfect hairstyle, but they can also damage your hair. These hot styling tools and your environment can damage your hair and make it very dry. Reviving your damaged hair can take a long time and a lot of work. Changing your diet or taking an omega-3 supplement can help, but sometimes this isn’t enough. Try one of these nine home remedies to restore your dry, damaged hair to its natural beauty.

Mayonnaise

In addition to being a great condiment, mayonnaise can help your dry, damaged hair. Mayonnaise has a lot of proteins and fats which your hair will absorb. Massage your mayonnaise into your scalp and hair. Be sure that you use full-fat mayonnaise as it will have more of the fats and proteins that your hair needs. For added shine and moisture, add eggs to your mayonnaise. Leave the mayonnaise in your hair for several minutes before rinsing it out and shampooing your hair.

Butter

Butter is another excellent home remedy for your dry, damaged hair. Butter will not only moisturize your hair, but it will also give your hair a beautiful shine. Massage the butter into your hair and let it sit for about half an hour before shampooing your hair and rinsing out all the butter.

Banana

Bananas are full of potassium and are good for your health. They are also great if you have dry hair. Bananas can moisturize your hair, and they can also help with split ends and the softness and elasticity of your hair. Mash a ripe banana and apply it all over your hair. Cover your hair and let it sit for one hour. Use lukewarm water when you rinse out the banana.

Avocado

Much like bananas, avocados are great resources if you have dry, damaged hair. These super fruits are full of vitamins and fats that are good for your hair, giving it moisture, shine, and strength. Mix one mashed avocado and an egg and apply it to your wet hair. Cover your hair and wait for an hour before thoroughly rinsing your hair with lukewarm water.

Tea Rinse

Teas have so many health benefits because of all of the antioxidants that it contains. A tea rinse is an excellent way to target your dry hair, giving it moisture and those helpful antioxidants. After your shampoo and condition your hair, rinse your hair in freshly brewed tea. You can use just about any natural tea, but remember that tea can help enhance your hair color. If you have lighter hair, use a lighter color tea, and if you have darker hair, use a dark tea to help naturally enhance your hair color.

Oils

Using oils on your hair is a great way to add moisture and shine fast. There are a lot of oils that you can use on your hair, including essential oils, olive oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil. Pick an oil that you are comfortable using and apply it in small amounts to your hair. For an added boost, heat but do not boil the oil before applying it to your hair. Wrap your hair in a warm towel for 45 minutes and rinse your hair with shampoo. If your hair needs extra moisture, leave the oils in your hair overnight and shampoo your hair in the morning.

Gelatin

This remedy may sound a little funny, but it does the trick if you have dehydrated and severely damaged hair. Plain gelatin can provide your hair with lots of protein and covers and protects your hair while sealing in the moisture. To use this treatment on your hair, mix one teaspoon of gelatin with a cup of warm water. Let this rest for five minutes before adding one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and your favorite essential oil. Apply this to your hair and wait ten minutes before rinsing it out with lukewarm water.
